What is selective RF microneedling?

Selective RF microneedling is a next-generation RF microneedling platform that uniquely offers both Pulsed Wave (PW) and Continuous Wave (CW) modes in a single device. This dual-wave capability is what defines selective RF microneedling — the pulsed wave mode specifically targets abnormal blood vessels and pigmentation without damaging surrounding normal tissue.

The continuous wave mode delivers conventional RF microneedling benefits: collagen remodelling, skin tightening, and pore reduction.

What does it treat?

  • Melasma and hormonal pigmentation (its primary indication)
  • Rosacea and facial redness
  • Vascular lesions and spider veins
  • Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
  • Skin laxity and fine lines
  • Enlarged pores and uneven texture
  • Acne and acne scarring

Why is selective RF microneedling considered for melasma?

Melasma is notoriously difficult to treat because many laser treatments can worsen it through the heat-induced stimulation of melanocytes. Selective RF microneedling's pulsed wave mode targets the abnormal microvasculature that feeds melanocyte activity, addressing the root cause rather than just treating the pigment surface.

How many sessions are needed for melasma? +
Melasma treatment typically requires 4–6 sessions spaced 2–4 weeks apart. Results vary depending on the type of melasma (epidermal vs. dermal) and the patient's hormonal status. Sun protection is critical throughout and after treatment.
Is there downtime? +
Downtime is minimal — most patients experience mild redness and swelling for 24–48 hours. Some patients see a sandpaper texture for 3–5 days. Social downtime is typically 1–2 days.
